Alumni Association of Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchirappalli

Introduction

The roots of the Jamal Mohamed College Alumni Association can be traced back to 1963, marking an emotional milestone in the history of the College. On 3rd December 1963, the students and old boys of the College came together with great enthusiasm and reverence to celebrate the 60th birthday of their beloved Principal, Alhaj M.J. Mohamed Sayeed Sahib.

On this occasion, the Jubilee Birthday Committee was formed with the following office bearers: Sri M. Nyamathulla (President), Sri V. Thirunavukkarasu and Mr. Aravandi (Vice-Presidents), Sri Hasrat Suharawardy (General Secretary), Sri Shakir and Sri Sathar (Assistant Secretaries), and Sri M.Y.A. Razack (Treasurer).

An appeal was made to present and past students, their parents, and well-wishers of the College to donate generously to a fund for constructing a hall to be named after him and for endowing scholarships in his name. The Jubilee Birthday Committee made a generous contribution of ₹3,000 to the College, which was used to institute prizes of ₹100 each for academic excellence in History and English in honour of the Old Boys' Association.
