About JMC

Jamal Mohamed College was founded in 1951, as an affiliated college to the University of Madras and later affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, when it was formed in 1982. The college is situated in the central part of Tamil Nadu, Tiruchirappalli city.

It was established as a minority institution with the primary objective of providing higher education to the downtrodden and socially backward sections of society in general.

The college is administered by the Society of Jamal Mohamed College and is established on a sprawling campus of 87 acres. Hajee M. Jamal Mohamed Sahib and Janab N. M. Khajamian Rowther were the founding fathers of this institution.

In 1957, the college earned national recognition when the Danforth Foundation of the USA selected it among the thirty best colleges in India. In 1963, the college was elevated to the status of a post-graduate institution.

In 1972, the college was recognized by the UGC under sections 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 and later recognized as one of the ten “Lead Colleges”.

The college was accredited with A++ Grade by NAAC in 2023 with a CGPA of 3.69 out of 4.0.

Emblem & Motto

The emblem consists of a shield divided into four parts with a circle at the center. The crescent and star symbolize Islamic culture, the open book represents knowledge, the lotus signifies purity and prosperity, and the Golden Rock depicts strength and perseverance. The motto reads: “Show us the right path”.
