A one day International Conference on “Environment and Health” (ICEH - 2019) was organized in the P.G department of Zoology, Jamal Mohamed College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli on 25th January 2019. Aquaculture, Stem Cell Biology, Marine Biology, Molecular Biology, Radiation Biology, DNA Barcoding, Animal Biotechnology, Entomology, Biodiversity, Microbiology, Environmental Toxicology and Drug Discovery were the theme areas of the conference. This International Conference served as a good platform for the senior scientists and experts from esteemed Laboratories, Universities and Research Institutes from India and abroad to present their recent findings in front of the young minds. Young scientists and students had an opportunity to have an effective interaction with the eminent personalities and to understand the latest research advancements in the frontier areas of Animal Science and Environment.
Delegates from 23 reputed institutions participated in the event and about 60 research papers were received from Faculty members, Research scholars, PG and UG students. Among them, selected 20 papers were presented in the conference, which showed the enthusiasm and interest of young minds towards research. For motivating the spirit and to create a scientific temper, we have also distributed five prizes for the best presentations.
Dr. S. THAMEEM DHEEN, Professor & Head, Department of Anatomy, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore inaugurated the seminar in the morning and delivered a lecture on “Impact of Maternal factors on the fetal brain development”. Dr. S. ISMAIL MOHIDEEN, Principal, Jamal Mohamed College presided over the function. Dr. A.K. KHAJA NAZEEMUDEEN, Secretary and Correspondent of the college, Hajee.M.J. JAMAL MOHAMED, Treasurer and Dr. K. Abdus Samad, Assistant Secretary, felicitated the gathering.

The session was continued by lecture given by Dr. M. A. AKBARSHA, Coordinator for Research, National College, Trichy on “Finding a role for male Mullerian gland of Caecillians”. Dr. P. SHAHUL HAMEED, Director, Centre for Environmental Education and Research, Trichy delivered a lecture on “Indoor Radon - Impact on Human Health”. He discussed on the hazards of radiation in to the human population. Another lecture was given by Dr. P. KANAGARAJ, Department of Biotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai on the topic “Aptamer mediated drug delivery to target breast cancer stem cells”. This was followed by another lecture by Dr. S. RAM KUMAR, Senior Scientist, Environmental Survey Laboratory, BARC, Kalpakkam on “Environmental Radio Activity” and he discussed how the radiation was measured in various samples and what are the effects of radiation dose on plants, animals and to the environment. The final lecture was presented by Prof. ARUNACHALAM DHARMARAJAN, Faculty of Health Science, Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute, Curtin University, Australia. He spoked on “Secreted Frizzled Related Protein-4; Implications in Cancer”.
