DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY (SF – WOMEN) 

JAMAL MOHAMED COLLEGE, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI 

 TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATIONS, 2022 (5 – 9, September 2022) 

A REPORT 

In connection with the Teacher’s Day Celebrations, as instructed by the UGC, New Delhi, the Department of Zoology (SF-W) of Jamal Mohamed College organized a series of programmes and events to glorify teachers, between 5th September and 9th September, 2022. 

       The birthday of our Former President, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was celebrated as TEACHER’S DAY by our department on 5th September, with zeal and pomp, at the Seminar Hall of our department. Dr. Mohamed Shamsudin, (MID) welcomed the gathering. Dr. I. Joseph Antony Jerald (HOD) spoke on the greatness of teachers and also explained why this day is celebrated as Teachers’ day. Dr. P. Shahul Hameed and Dr. M.M. Shahul Hameed, Former Heads of our department were among the dignitaries who took part. All the staff (men and women) of our department along with the students participated in the celebrations. The speakers explained the contributions of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan to the community and public as well. It was decided to hold Oratorical contests and Essay writing competitions on the successive dates and award prizes to the winners. Prof. Seyed Mafiya Haniff, Assistant Professor in Zoology proposed vote of thanks. 

      On 07.09.2022 a special lecture programme was arranged. Dr. B. Ramalingam, an illustrious alumnus of our department, Scientist E, Department of Immunology, ICMR, National Institute of Research in Tuberculosis, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, spoke on “TEACHERS ROLE IN NATION BUILDING”. He gave a memorable talk highlighting the role played by teachers in the construction of modern India. Dr. M. Aneez Mohamed and Dr. A. Sadiq Bukhari, Co-Ordinators, Department of Fashion Technology and Biotechnology respectively, highlighted the participation of teachers in developing a well meant society and the reciprocating factors of students. They insisted on the students on how they have to consider their teachers as second parents. All staff members of our department and Biotechnology department participated in the programme.  Dr. P. Suganthi, Assistant Professor of Zoology, thanked the gathering. 

      An Oratorical competition was held on 08.09.2022 to mark the birth anniversary of our former President, Dr. Radhakrishnan. The title given was “THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHERS IN OUR LIVES”. Many students participated in the competition and the following students were adjudged as winners.

     An Essay Writing Competition was held on 09.09.2022, where a number of students eagerly participated. The topics given were 1) IF I WERE A TEACHER ! and 2) THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHERS IN OUR LIVES. The following students were chosen for prize distribution.

Dr. MOHAMED SHAMSUDIN and Dr. I. JOSEPH ANTONY JERALD congratulated the meritorious students. Prof. H.F. SEYED MAFIYA HANIFF and Dr. P. DHANALAKSHMI organized the events and selected the deserving students. Both the programmes evoked a remarkable response among the students, and also helped them to understand their hidden talents. 

 It was followed by a Book Reading Session was organized for the benefit of students. This event created a great influence on the students to initiate the habit of reading. The event took place in the Department Library, Dept. of Zoology after the class hours. Many students took part in the event, thereby invoking great interest towards reading. 

 The entire week commencing from 5.9.2022 to 9.9.2022 was much useful in showing our gratitude to our teachers, the past and present. It was a very remarkable week.
